How to achieve this finish?

Hi all,  I am refinishing a buffet for a client.  She sent me an inspiration picture of a beautiful buffet very similar to the one I am refinishing.  I'm have learned a lot of techniques, but I am unsure how to get this look. Does anyone have suggestions?

I think it is faux painting but not positive.

I would paint it, then use a wax on it. Take off more was on the drawers and leave more in the crevices. It is a beautiful piece. You can do it, just go after it. You could also use a stain over it, but without out the poly in it.

This looks like almost a dark brown or black wax to me.

You can use a dark glaze like Rustoleum's Java Brown Glaze or dark wax. A little goes a long ways for either one of these and you have to be careful or you'll end up with a dirty looking piece. If you're using chalk paint and you seal it with wax then you will need to seal it with clear wax before using the dark wax. You can use the glaze or the dark wax with any type of paint btw. The dark wax/glaze will also cause a big change in the color of the paint. You can check out my post on this secretary. So I figured out how to accomplish the look my client wants.  I think it actually looks very close to the inspiration picture.  I'm using a combination of a grey wax (DIY) and a white wax and then the brown to get the aged look. Thanks for all of the input, definitely set me on the right path. I was overthinking, as usual.
