Douglas Hunt on May 27, 2012Spider plants do not like cold at all. They could go outside for part of the year, but if temperatures are going to get anywhere near 40 degrees, you'd have to bring them in.Helpful Reply

DianaB on Sep 02, 2015Photo would help. You may or may not have a spider plant (which is NOT an outdoor plant and is NOT a bulb) but procreates by hanging "runners" with babies at the end which can be cut off, suspended in water to get them to start rooting and then planted. What you maybe have is what is called monkey grass which will grow in the ground and put out purple flowers. Look both of them up for photos and decided what you have and how to propagate or plant--indoors or out.Helpful Reply

Pat Croley on Jan 03, 2016We live on the gulf coast in Alabama and true spider plants will winter here outside quite well. If they die back they will come right back in the spring. We do try to protect them but it seems harder on the plants to bring them inside for the winter. They dry out and yellow a lot. The babies are so sweet to plant more and more of them.....Helpful Reply

Marv on Jan 03, 2016I live in the Dallas, Texas area and leave it planted in my outdoor flower bed. It dies off each winter and sprouts out each spring better than ever. It may not be a bulb, but it certainly acts like one and I do know it is a spider plant. Got tired of it drying out every winter indoors and separated and planted it outdoors.Helpful Reply

Barbs089 on May 04, 2016Spider plants are outdoor plants as are all plants. Plants survive indoors when the outdoors is not compatible with their usual habitat. i.e. rain forest plants in Wyoming. I live in California and have spiders that are in part sun and somewhat sheltered from winter frost. They are full and beautiful now. hope that helpsHelpful Reply
