Dawn Singh on Jul 19, 2013Someone told me that OxyClean will take a stain out even if it has already been treated and washed. I haven't tried it so I can't vouch for that, but it's worth a try.Helpful Reply

Shari on Jul 19, 2013If they are oil/grease based stains, try applying a few drops of blue Dawn dishwashing soap, rub it in, let it sit for several hours and then toss in the wash again using the hottest water that is safe for your garment, and see if the stains are any better. You may recall hearing that biologists used Dawn to wash the oil off of seabirds and wildlife caught in oil spills because of it's grease cutting power. I've also heard "scribbling" on greasy stains with chalk, or sprinkling with baby powder on the stains will absorb the stain(s) but I haven't actually tried this myself. As Kimberly said, sometimes it takes multiple efforts, or trying a couple different stain removal techniques.Helpful Reply

Lydia Whitehead Torres on Jul 19, 2013I use cornstarch and Dawn on all my grease spots. Sprinkle on a thick layer of the corn starch, rub it in real good and let it sit for a few hours. Then rub in Dawn and wash. This has always worked for me. I raised 4 kids, 2 boys that loved working on motorcycles and 2 girls that loved to cook. Plus I can be a very messy cook, worked on the lawn mower and changed the oil in my own car. So, I have had some experience in cleaning up grease spots.Helpful Reply

173371 on Jul 19, 2013I would use Zout, a pre-treatment spray from Dial. Work it in the spots and let them sit a few minutes, and again, avoid the dryer. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Bev @ The Make Your Own Zone on Jul 21, 2013Others suggested Dawn and I use it also on stains. I make a mixture of one part Dawn to two parts hydrogen peroxide. I usually do 1 Tbl Dawn with 2 Tbl of peroxide. Then put some on the stain, rub it in a little bit, and let it sit for several hours. Then wash as usual. This has gotten out some tough stains for me.Helpful Reply

Rachel Drechsler on Sep 11, 2013Sometimes liquid fabric softeners are actually the reason stains seem to get worse. Also, the little crystals, pellets or the stick on dryer bars can and do cause more stains than before If you have to add softeners use the sheets, they don't stain.I actually had a conversation in the grocery store about the little spots on clothes that were just washed but not seen until clothes were dried.DAWN Dish Liquid really works to get stains out.Pre-treat,soak clothes in a tub or bucket of lukewarm water for a day or two and then launder as usual.Stains should be gone.Repeat if necessary.Era is also a good one to try using the same method.Don't waste your time or money on any of those other pretreatment products. Also stop your washer and just let clothing sit for a few hours, wash as usual. My machine allows me to pause and set the washer to start in two hours or more...if yours doesn't then just turn off the machine after it has filled with water.Helpful Reply

Liliana Wells on Sep 11, 2013I have not used a dryer for about two years. I have found some greasy stains are worse than others. But Palmolive or Dawn work great as pretreat. Thanks for the information you provided.Helpful Reply

Rose Hill-Syriac on Aug 27, 2015My favorite dark royal blue top got some kind of stain on it. I put the hydrogen peroxide on it let it sit overnight than washed...came out perfect. The pre-treat I used the first time I washed it did nothing. I like the Dawn idea and will try it . ThanksHelpful Reply

Karen DeShong George on Aug 30, 2015If you have a grease spot on cloth just use chalk (yep the king kids use on sidewalk) on it. I put it on when I take off my tops but you can do it just before you wash it. Works like a charm and you can get to chalk in different colors for you colored cloths if you want but the white works on all. Just wash as you would usually do.Helpful Reply
