William on Aug 09, 2016You can use Citristrip stripper to remove everything. Or sand it smooth, prime with KILZ or BIN, them paint.Helpful Reply

Shannon O- Junkflirt on Aug 09, 2016you will have to remove the decals or they will show through as raised design. You can scrape them off and sand edges if you don't want to strip the entire piece, but whatever you can feel with your hand, however slight, will show in the paint.Helpful Reply

Anna on Aug 10, 2016I agree with using Citristrip. It may take two coatings ... one to remove the coating and decals and one to remove the chalk paint. But you may get lucky and need only one coating.Helpful Reply

Danielle on Aug 10, 2016I'm giving another upvote to the Citristrip. Then sand, then tack cloth, then prime, then paint. Prep is absolutely everything.Helpful Reply
