Take into consideration the colour of your flooring and furniture & decor that will be in the room. I usually first decide if I'm going to do a warm or cool colour to narrow it down a bit. Get a whole bunch of paint samples & look at them in the room at different times of day to narrow it down further. I would suggest from there getting a small sample can of your colour or narrowed down colours & testing them on a wall. Don't overlook the importance of this because the paint sample can look totally different once on the wall. We just moved & we picked a grey colour for our walls without testing it & it looks very purple to me. Once you've decided, speak to the paint specialist at the store & they can direct you on the type of paint to get depending on the room, e.g. you can get certain paints for high traffic areas, kitchens or bathrooms with showers.

when you go to the paint/hardware store and you see colors that you might like, pick up the free paint chips. With painters tape stick to wall with lots of natural light and wall without. One for each wall. Leave up for day or two to see the colours under natural and artificial light. It is also easier to match paint to your accessories than trying to match accessories to your paint.
It really depends on your taste. If you want to make a bold statemany, choose a bold color. But if you would rather not paint every time your tastes change, paint your walls a more neutral xolor and accent with fabrics and decorative items

The most fun I think I have ever had, was deciding to paint every wall in my house a different color! I had one room that I had painted all one color that started it, It was bright and bold but not something I wanted throughout the entire house. I gathered paint chips from Home Depot and made sure they all were of the same tone and blended into each other subtly. I used 3 shades of each color, darker to light. When I finished I was delighted to find that I could easily change the entire look of a room simply by changing a new accent item.
