Base your decisions on lighting in all the rooms, sizes of the rooms(dark colors will make the rooms look smaller).Browse through paint websites for color inspirations.Next step get some paint swatches and tape them on the walls. If you think it will work for you,buy samples and test them first.
What color are your dishes and cups? Do you have artwork that you plan to put up in that room? I would keep the cabinets very simple, and maybe just one wall of a color that will coordinate with your favorite items you will be displaying. The thing about paint, you can always repaint if you don't like it after all. I redid my kitchen several years ago in a pretty lime green and my accents are red with lots of ceramic fruit bowls, etc. The focal point is a large print of Mexican women at a farmers market with baskets of vegetables and I put up Wall Words "Life is Delicious. Enjoy it!" My cabinets are a pretty maple finish. I tossed around the idea of painting them, but instead I just refinished them and put new knobs. I hemmed and hawed for a long time too before I made my color choice. Don't rush. Eventually you will make a decision. Sample paints from Home Depot/Lowes allow you to test colors.
Hi Laurie, loved your input, great ideas. My dishes combined with inherited dishes make a wide range of color ideas; blue, red, yellow/green, white/pinks mostly. Wall decor will be a country motif, probably, but I also have italian chefs (black, white, red) figurines to display. My cabinets are old and in bad shape so sanding is a must. I thought about painting them gray with white trim. Any thoughts?
Instead of painting the cabinets grey with white trim, consider painting the top cabinets white and the lower cabinets grey. This is a great look and adds a lot of interest to your room You can see tons of examples of this on Hometalk/Pinterest, etc.
We did the same thing. We went to lowes, purchased the right gray. little did I know the gray I wanted, I was wearing, LOL. Olympic One Silver Charm (OL128) N7 and ultra true premium white base 1. the sample for it is not on shelf. it is a special extra white white. it is looking really good. Our painter is caulking the seams with a paintable caulk.
Olympic One now the special white you have to ASK FOR ultra true premium white base. Base 1 in the whites pamphlet. they use the ultra white as the base then they mix in the true white or vise versa. Have fun. I pared accent color red accessories. and chrome silver pulls and possibly some black.

Hi Shaley, it's coming down to the wire so I'll have to make my choice soon. I'm going back to Lowe's tonight so I'll be looking for that Silver Charm.
