Hello, there are many prepositional spray tacky glue such as krylon easy tack, aleenes tacky spray that you can spray on the back of the stencil.

I have read about using an adhesive spray , but yet to try this.
There is an adhesive spray you can buy at Michael's or similar store.
The re-position-able spray glues have worked for me
I think you should consider much less paint on the brush if you are hand painting. Very light touches that you can go over and over till you have the look you want. That was hard for me to get the hang of at first. Now, I just use a little painters tape and rarely have bleed under the stencil.
