Mixing my own chalk paint????

I have several projects waiting to be painted. This will be my first time with chalk paint not already mixed but to make my own colors I have several questions regarding this. 1) where would I buy small amounts of paint to mix chalk paint? 2) can you mix semi-gloss and high-gloss paint for the mixing? 3) Is there a way to mix a copper color or silver and gold colors for chalk paint? Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me. Look forward to information. Have a great day.

Hey there! I am by no means an expert with chalk paint but I have redone all our furniture including fabric covered chairs and they have held up well over time. Your first question as to where to buy: go to Home Depot and pick out colors from the Behr paint line amd get in the sample containers (7.25 oz). Can't think of the price but they are generally around $2-3 so you can get many colors amd play around with them. I recommend eggshell finish as I have not had the best luck with how they turn out in high gloss. For your second question about mixing the 2 glosses -I don't see why... you will need to seal the furniture anyway. For your 3rd question YES! This is the most fun about chalk paint. I recommend looking at distressing/blending with chalk paint on pinterest though I bet you already have! I actually have entire huge board dedicated to everything chalk paint if that would help! Oh, also, since you are trying to mix those colors I do recommend you dry brush with Purdy brushes and layer the colors then sand slightly. They are a little pricier but so worth it! I am assuming you already know what to add to your paint to make it chalk paint but remember there are tons of different things you can add to the paint that make it chalk paint and I will say some work much better than others. I hope this helps somewhat! 😁

Hi fellow caulk painter, thank you so much for taking the time to answer all my questions. You mentioned making the caulk paint. If you have a good mixture please let me know. I would like to do this once per project if I can. I want to do it the best way the first time. Thanks again for all your info. Have a wonderful day.

I am new at chalk painting myself, but I'm betting you are trying to mix some paint you already have as far as mixing the glosses. I do it all the time! As far as adding any shiny elements to the paint, I've not tried. I did, however, add rub-n-buff to the edges of furniture after waxing them! They turned out great! I too would like to know of a good recipe for chalk paint!
