I would remove the hardware and sand with a palm sander, I don't like using chemicals.
The fastest and easiest thing to do would be to paint the dresser any color you want. No need to strip it. Replace the pulls.
i am in the process right now of stripping and antique dresser using Citristrip. It's really easy to use but this dresser had six different coats of paint and a varnish on it, so I've had to repeat the process three times. I'll post it when I get it all cleaned up and painted. Good luck!
Citristrip is probably the least smelly stripper I’ve used
Also, the Citristrup is non toxic and safe to use indoors too
Citristrip is the only safe paint remover
You might want to wait until spring so you can take it outside. Inside it's going to be stinky and messy. Plus you will need to have room to remove all the drawers and have a place to set them.
Yes, I have used Citristrip too. Very low odor. You can apply then cover in plastic wrap. Leave overnight, or keep checking on it periodically. I have also used a product called Blue Bear Soy Gel Paint and Urethane Stripper which you can get on-line. It works great too. Use it out in my garage and you could never tell that you were stripping a piece of furniture out there.
