You buy the stencil. Although if you are good with calligraphy and an exacto knife you may be able to make stencil, if you can find something premade you will spend so much less time.

Try going to Wal-Mart or Micheals get the script letter stencils and cut and place your letters where you like shade in with chalk first to see if it'works for your look if it'good remove and reset for paint
It is not hard at all, YOU CAN DO THIS!! It is so easy! You don't need a stencil to do this. Print out Lake House, in the font you want (I like "Magnolia Sky") making sure the size of the font will fit on your board. Once you print the words, you will take colored chalk and rub on the back of the paper. You will then lay the words on the board and then trace the outline of the letters with a pencil. The chalk from the back of the paper will transfer the outline and then you just paint the letters. Let me know it this makes sense or if you have questions. Good Luck Barbara!
I should have mentioned also, if you go to Michael's or Joanne's, you can pick up individual stencils of the alphabet and use those instead of the method I mentioned. They just might not have the pretty script you are looking for. I have done the chalk method and seriously, it is very easy.
I was looking for a 12in X 12in tile stencil on Ebay and found one vendor that will do custom stencils... it would cost under $20
