If you don't want to end up with a mess, remove the wallpaper first. Use spray bottle, hot water and TSP. Spray on a section, wait 10 minutes and scrape off the wall with a scraper - gently. Or an electric steamer will work as well.
Thanks Diana. I certainly agree with you about it being a pain. We removed our kitchen wallpaper and swore we would never do it again. I guess I’ll just have to do it. 😝
Do you need any helpful tips? Do you have a wallpaper shark? That would help a lot. Our house was built in 1910. EVERYTHING was wallpapered. We used a shark and then sprayed a mix of fabric softener and water on it and let it soak, it came down pretty easy, for the most part.
at least get a “wall paper remover scoring tool” which is basically a rolling ball with small serrated teeth, wet the wall good and roll away..then wet again and it should scrape fairly easy..steamers work great if you’re careful & follow instructions, but remember, steam is hot and can really burn you if you get careless. no matter what method you use, you’ll be sorry if you don’t remove all the previous covering and residue..

I agree, I know its a pain, especially if the wallpaper is being difficult about being removed, but it will look terrible if you don't remove it.

Add liquid fabric softener to your water before spraying. That made a tremendous difference in ease of removal for me.

Yup. If you really wet small sections and take that off, you can do it section by section! Not as painful...
There is, panel over it..or put 1/2 Sheetrock over it, mud & tape then paint..it all depends on your personal definition of “fun”...
That’s a good reason to never wallpaper..
