There are so many neutral colors that go beautifully with honey oak trim! It's hard to pick just one. You might want to go to Sherwin Williams and get their fan of colors and decide what color family you like and go from there! The fan has a separate section of neutral colors. Blues, greens, whites, grays, yellows, etc. If you ask you can get one for free. Every Sherwin Williams color you can imagine.

what color flooring? is there natural light? if not, what sort of lighting do you have. what color furniture? one room, several, or a whole level? formal, casual, what style/era house?

how 'golden' is your honey oak? do you want it to stand out like an Arts and Crafts space (HuntClub), to downplay it (Malabar), or just update it? (SilverPlate, CityScape)

The flooring will be replaced. Plan to do a medium hard wood. There is lots of natural light. Furniture is beige and brown. Would like to downplay the yellow in the trim.

Go to any home store and get as many color chips as you can in hand and go home and tape each one to the wall in random fashion...then leave them up for several days to see how they all compare in daylight and nighttime lamp light...eliminate them one by one until you are happy with the color that you like best...then go buy your paint...
