Fresh paint helps. The older paint may have evaporated some, making it gooey. If it’s really bad you could try an additive usually used with paint sprayers. The additive will let the paint go thru the spray nozzle. The brand name I’ve used is flotrol, there are others. You don’t need to spray, just add a bit at a time to your paint..when the brush marks disappear your good.

Use high-quality brushes, and make sure you have the proper type for your project.
Agree with Ellis. Improved results in painting partially come with experience, but completing the proper preparation and using high quality brushes does help to eliminate undesirable results such as brush strokes.
My favorite way to do this is use a paint pad. The paint goes on smooth, and there are no brush strokes.
Add Fleotrol to the paint. Available at Home Depot or Lowes.
