Do you want to stain your exterior rather than paint it? That would take a lot of prep but I bet it'd look beautiful.

It depends on what you have for siding.
I've seen them spray stain large wooden fences with a spray gun.
Go to a reputable paint store and talk to them. Then, get on Nextdoor and see what info you can gather from neighbors who have cedar plank houses. Cedar will often weep sap so ask about that. Has it been stained previously? What will prep consist of? Expected durability of stain? Talk to a house painter who probably also stains.
