Scuff the surface with 200 grit sandpaper or a green kitchen scrubby to remove the gloss. Several light coats of metal spray paint for a smooth finish.

Yes but prep is key. Take them down, sand, wipe clean, mist from all directions (misting is important to avoid runs) and seal with a clear coats spray that is made for metal. It helps to wrap painter's tape around the handle when installing it (screw drivers can scratch the handle). Just remove after installation.

Scuff with steel wool, clean with denatured alcohol, spray with RustOleum spray paint.
