We used to skin the husks and then dry and eat them...my grandfather would put them on the road to his garden and drive over them with his small tractor to remove the husks.

Oh man! I wish I lived near you. I would take some.. We also dried them. My grandfather had a tree, when all the cousins were young we would sit around and shell them for our moms. I would get on Craigslist. Sell them. I bet you put an add out you would be bombarded with people wanting them.

Sell them. My neighbor was just talking about how much money her mom gets for the black walnuts from her trees.

invest in some grandkids! We (when we were little) used to have to peel the black walnuts and crack them open with a hammer for my mom so she could put the walnuts in her chocolate chip cookies. Probably why I hate nuts to this day!

I remember how stained my fingers would get from dehusking the black walnuts...but I still love them!

Yes, a lot of crafters would love them, I do myself......u boil them up and get a dark liquid and then I store it in a 5 gallon bucket .........then I use it to dye material for antique dolls and such..........there is a tree out back here but I could never find them back home in Syracuse NY.......instead of using coffee or tea to dye things, this is so perfect......just info for u........
