Paint concrete block basement walls to not look like block walls

Our basement flooded and we had to remove all of the particle board walls and studs. We do not want to worry about water again and want to paint the walls with dry lock and then would like to know if there is an easy treatment to put another layer of paint on that would hide that the walls are concrete block so they looked more like a finished basement, but would not be a problem if we ever flood again. Does anyone have any ideas they have tried?

A couple of things but both are pricey. First you can do a skim coat of concrete to cover and smooth the walls then tint your Dry Lock and paint. Or and I've done this with plaster walls that needed huge repairs... tint your Dry Lock in two separate shades and do a sort of faux finish that help disguise that it is block wall. Here is a post I did and it shows some of the walls. http://autumnaire.blogspot.com/2014/12/house-flipping-project-at-4-johnson.html

When moving into my home 30 yrs ago, we had 2 walls that were really wet all the time. Overt his 30 yr period, I have put dry lock on just to freshen the color. This is an outer wall that is in front of my house. My mother in law told me to plant some plants outside. When they (plants), I used hues. They absorbed alot of the water also. I may get alittle mildew on the wall every now and them. Just use plastic gloves and clorox and it helps. The mildew starts in the spring with the rainny season. Our whole house air conditioner also help, less mold

Why try to hide the concrete block walls? I would go with it and I have. Industrial decorating is really nice. I had a detached garage built on the back of my lot and no longer needed to use the garage that is attached to the house as a garage. This room is now my office/ grandkids play room. I love it! I sanded the block walls to give it a little smoother look and painted. I wouldn’t even consider drywall! I had the floor painted in epoxy, the marble look. Had vented for HVAC. Hung shelves, photos, etc. it’s a fun room!
