Coloring clay pots with food coloring

I've seen this done but i,m not sure how to use the food coloring in the water, do i put several colors in the water and dip the pot in that way?

Yes, it must be nail polish as, I'm sure, food coloring would just wash off. Are you trying to get a marbled look? That would be what happens when the nail polish floats around on the water...usually you gently stir the colors and then dip an item it it. See the link that Joline gave you.
