Cindy,. Set up an arch shape in the background. You can also make an L-shape. Aloha!
Make two seating areas out of the one room. I have a similar sounding living room. I grouped a seating area near the fireplace and put a game table area behind the couch.
Perhaps a comfy seating area around the fireplace for when it is used, and set up the rest of the living room as you see fit. A picture would help with the room and the Livingroom furniture so we can see what you have to work with. Also, is the TV in the living room and is it over the fireplace, or somewhere else?
I have a similar set up. I grouped the sofas and coffee table in the fireplace area. I have a table with lamp and chair for a cozy reading area. A small dinette on the opposite end of the room so that we can eat or do crafts while still being in the same area.
if you can print out some graph paper, and measure the room and furniture. make cut outs of your furniture and use them to arrange the lay out. much easier on the back. when you get a lay out you like-then arrange the furniture.
