Can I paint a toaster oven?

I have an Oster Toaster Oven that I love but I'm afraid it's no beauty. It's black with chrome trim. I like the trim, but want to change the black box to something fresh and pretty that suits my kitchen decor better. I'm considering painting it with appliance paint but I don't want to cause a fire in my kitchen when I use a spray-painted oven. Any thoughts?

If it doesn't get hot when in use, why not? I bet it would look wonderful! If it does get hot, then you might have to look at other options.

Hi Judith! Change is good......:) I'd say "yes, it can" Just mask off the areas you don't want painted and use the correct paint for the surface you're painting. There's a good choice of paint for plastic now available. Here's a llnk to show several things we used to think couldn't be painted that can. Go for it! Maybe share a before & after pic for us?

Thank you, Janice for your enthusiastic response. People are advising caution and I have found that the oven does get hot. If I can find "grill" paint in a good color I will give it a go.

You would need to use high temperature paint. It is made for grills, but it should work. The only thing is that I’ve only seen it in black. Perhaps it is made in other colors though.

Thank you, Zar, I will look into that kind of paint. I appreciate your help.

  • I'd be careful with this. If anything, get a high temperature spray paint. While the colors are a bit more limited, painting anything that has the potential to get very hot can be dangerous. Appliance paint isn't mean to be on a heated surface.

Thanks very much for that insight, Becky! Someone else mentioned grill paint as well. I tested the toaster oven and discovered that, although it doesn't get terribly hot to the touch, it does get extremely warm. I will want to be very careful as I make this decision. The other point is that this type of paint may only come in black, in which case there's no point in following through.

Anyway, thank you again for your thoughtful and helpful response.
