I also recommend that you read bloggers' experiences who are happy with how it all worked out and those who changed their minds about it after a few years.
I do lots of chalk painting of furniture but would not recommend using chalk paint in an area where water or grease is present. It does not wipe off well and stains easily, even with a topcoat sealer.
