Darla on Oct 06, 2014It's the same as anything else - wash it and be sure to rinse off all the soap, sand it, prime it with a good primer, and paint it.Helpful Reply

Shannon Govar Hamlett on Oct 06, 2014PRIMER! Zinser 1-2-3 is my favorite! Apply 2-3 coats, allowing each to dry thoroughly....very important and too often not done. You do do not sand veneer all over. Sand only over any damaged areas so that the finished piece has a uniform surface. If there is damage that has created a divot or damaged a corner, etc, you can fill them or rebuild them with as part of your prep work. Chalk paint especially works great over veneer due to its "bonding" nature, but still USE THE ZINSER 1-2-3 water-based primer before you paint. Have fun and post pictures!!Helpful Reply
