I used Annie Sloan white chalk paint and wax. Why does it look yellow?

was the paint pure white and did you use the recommended wax
Probably the wax.
I refinished an old used head and footboard to create a new bedroom suite for my granddaughter. 3 coats of off white chalk paint (has a hint of grey in it). 3 coats of same brand wax. I applied one coat of wax at a time. Let it dry overnight then buff out before you add the second coat of wax, repeat. IF the wax isn't mixed well, it will look yellow. IF you don't buff each wax coat, it can look yellow. Hope that helps.
And it looks like you did a great job.
What coor is your light bulb and lamp shade?
Are you referring to the entire piece or just the base? To me the base looks a little more yellow than the rest of it. If this is the case, it's probably bleed thru. You'll have to prime it with Kilz to stop the bleed and repaint.
Relection off of the pine wood around it? I know that a white house and a bright pink one next door caused problems in our neighborhood. Honestly, I know it sounds crazy, but I drove by and the white house looked pale pink at times during the day, but just on one side! Crazy.
All of the wax I have used is amber in color. Should not be an obvious yellow on the hutch but rather and aged or antique look. That is why you use the wax. You achieved a very desirable result.
You need to use very thin layer of the wax, if you put to much will yellow. After when is dry pout more layers. In your sytuation you can lightly sand off the wax and put on again.
Thanks!
