Paint is going to make it harder for the light to shine through. I haved used inks or thin Japanese papers, but tissue paper works, too. You will have to reglue a different trim afterwards.

I dont mind the light not coming through much as the lamp is for my bedroom and it bourlesque themed (low lighting)

I used diluted fabric dye very successfully to color lampshades. I think emulsion paint would be very heavy and may end up cracking.

Use a fabric medium and watered down acrylic paint to paint it. Both are available at craft stores or Wal*Mart

I agree, fabric medium and hot pink acrylic paint. I know Micael's carries the hot pink color. You could also paint black on the inside if the brush marks show when lit. I have also used gold paint on inside of lamp shades.

You can mix a medium for fabric with pink craft paint, it will work. You buy both at any craft store for under $5.00 for both. The light will shine through.

After an awful lot of deliberation about what to use i opted for a tester pot of emulsion. Its worked a treat.
