Here's what's cookin- in Brooklyn: Soymilk.

My husband and I decided to go on a grocery budget, after noticing that we were spending way too much on last-minute purchases in our overpriced local stores. One item we are guilty of spending way too much on is ricemilk and soymilk (our house is no-dairy). I decided to buy a canister of dried soya powder and try making my own soymilk. With inspiration from "How It All Vegan" (a great cookbook) and the help of a trusty blender, I made soymilk in about 1 minute for my coffee today. It was a little thin, and I think I might add agar agar to it to thicken it in the future.
Soy powder + maple syrup + vanilla extract + water = soymilk
Soymilk and coffee and my laptop...a familiar scene indeed.

So Ken, are you also concerned about organic, non-GMO soy? As a vegetarian, I would rather take the risks of consuming quite a bit of soy for my protein intake than assume the health and environmental risks of meat. Stepping off bandwagon now.

Steve G - great point - I use a non-GMO veggie protein sometimes - have to say I prefer more of a raw diet - I can feel the difference - guess it's all about "the energy" for me (energy to be considered on many levels!)
