Tom on Apr 02, 2011The outside wall is concrete block, starting underground to the left, and above ground to the right. I waterproofed the block wall with masonary paint, 6mil plastic as a further vapor barrier. Then I covered the wall with 1 inch styrofoam 4x8 sheets, then built an insulated stud and sheetrock wall against the styrofoam. That mechanically decouples the inside stud wall from the outside world. The total wall is 12 inches thick, and I'll be using shipping foam in a custom sized box to fit the two windows. My neighbor on that side hates noise, especially barking dogs, and I'm a heavy metal musician. Gotta keep the peace....
