What is the easiest way to separate roots and repot indoor plants?

my jade and aloe plants grow so fast and big and have babies, when I try it is so messy and the change kills the new ones.

It sounds like maybe, at least with the aloe vera, that perhaps you are overwatering when you make the change? In the winter, you should water much less.
