There are washing machine tablets you can purchase wherever you buy your cleaning supplies that will maintain a clean washing machine. Read the instructions for Frequency of use.

also by leaving the door open the rubber gasket dries a lot faster.
I usually run it with vinegar where the soap goes and then sprinkle baking soda on the inside. Then after it runs once with that, scrub it down with the same solution if needed. For the rubber part, if the solution doesn't work you could try a little bleach there too :) Regularly cleaning it will help it not build up in the future.
