What did he use to cut the groves in the concrete?

I've seen this done using regular stains then sealed. Not sure the acid staining is DIYable or not. I hope Debbie comes back with more info.

Hello Again! Thanks for all the kind words on my pictures. I'm lucky that my husband is a concrete contractor, but this is still a do it your self projct. Steps #1 on old concrete is MUST be clean, pressure wash or stiff brush with mild soap, and rinsed well. #2 After it is DRY, stain my be applied with a sprayer or brush (acid stain contractor only) but the home improvement store have something simular. To get the same effect use more than 1 color. #3 a clear concrete sealer applies with a ...»
sprayer or wax mop. I also applied a floor wax just to make the sand sweep up ez (we live in North florida out in the country and have a lot of sand!) And to the question about the cuts, this floor has been down for about 16 years so we just added to the cracks that were aleady there, with a drummel tool with a diamond tip. messy and labor intence but so worth it.Our front porch was cut (using concrete saw) to look like tile in 16" x 16" squares and stained also.

and YES concretracks! it is a liquid that turns hard on a moving earth. Take it from a concrete contractor it WILL crack at some point in time. the more expansion cuts are placed in our new concrete the better. Just sayin!
