My Rock Gardens

We live on a farm in Southwest Iowa. Our farm fields have underground springs and rocks are constantly coming to the top and so we have to go and pick up the rocks out of the field in the spring before planting or in the fall after the harvest. All of these rocks have come from our fields.

I am in Iowa too, isn't it amazing how the fields grow rocks like that, farm kids HATE harvesting rocks.

Just my opinion, but I think it's too much of a good thing! I love the use of rocks but to a minimum! Way to many!

I Love this! With the way the steps amble down the slope, I love the jumble of rocks! I thnk it would be difficult to have a more printine layout in this space. And the rocks help keep the weeds out -- which would be difficult to work on in this hilly space!

I think this falls in the category of "when life gives you lemons..." When life gives you rocks, make a rock garden!

All the rocks in my rock garden and patio extension came from the digging for the fifth runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport. My husband worked at the AP during that time.....so, free rocks! ;-D

I use rocks to border my gardens...I collect them from construction sights or wherever they may be. If there's a bulldozer, I have to stop and look for some great finds. My neighbor 10 y/o Christopher picks out one every spring and that gets to be his pet rock for the year. If I have a big load of rocks he comes to the car with his wagon and we haul them together. Gardening is such a good way to show kids a good life lesson. I love your rock gardens and wish I could see it personally. I go on garden trips when time allows.

I live in Arkansas and rocks are numerous on our wooded property. As soon as the snakes are too cold to bite I plan to gather the rocks for my planed rock garden. Yours are beautiful.

I am.also lucy enough to have rocks,.pretty much where ever I go. I.use them to lone walkways, or to.just fill in empty spaces along with little ceramic chicken, pid and what ever else I can find. I have this very plain 3 tiered waterfall that my daughter got me years ago, which I am going to add with glue, lots of rocks ant twisted twigs and what ever else I can find like moss, etc. Anything to make it not look so plain. I even have a bathroom sink that is painted in decoritive colors from ...»

Your pictures have inspired me. I planted Hen and Chicken seeds inside so I will have them for the planned rock garden in the spring. I may have to make shelves for the windows to hold all the plants so will be ready for spring. LOL

I have a question for you. I picked up a small dresser by the side of the road. It has two large pullout drawers. What could I make of this? For either inside or outside, preferably outside with plants, etc. Thank you.
