Spider Web Pillow

When summer fades away,I begin by decorating my porch and steps for fall with Halloween in mind. Around mid October it is time to add a little spook to the scene.
I like to keep it simple with items I can add and remove quickly so we can move into the season of thankfulness.
I always check my local Dollar General for seasonal decor. They really have some cute stuff. This year I spotted these spiderweb place mats. They would look awesome on a burlap table cloth, but my store only had three, so I grabbed a couple and figured I could make something out of them like these spider web pillows.

It was fairly easy to make. I used some old burlap sacks so that meant taking apart seams and pressing and so forth. It would be much easier with burlap fabric. All you have to do is cut two squares a little larger than the placement and seam three sides together leaving the bottom open.

Sew a line about three inches up from the bottom all the way around the bottom and then fringe it. The stitched line will allow the fringing to only go up the three inches.
To secure the place mat to the burlap, I sprayed one side of the web with adhesive and centered it. This kept it in place while I machine stitched it by going in a circle. I did a circle at the center, the bottom and then the middle all around the web.
Recently I recycled some bedroom curtains into some pillows for the rocking chairs on the porch.

These spider web place mats made an awesome spooky statement when sewn onto a burlap slip cover.

And when I say slip cover, I mean just slip it over the pillow for some speedy spooking!
