Yamini LEED AP at Urbanmotifs on Aug 25, 2011Pamela, you mean you want to DIY the patio yourself? It may not be impossible but it sure is a lot of work. I think the best is using Pavers, they are easy to install but the can be a cumbersome process. See this paving project by Paul R, he had his son help him with this project. http://www.hometalk.com/activity/47243Helpful Reply

White Pine Land Studio, LLC on Aug 25, 2011ALWAYS start with a good foundation. The extra work will pay dividends later. Whatever the material, get a good foundation, and make sure you know how deep the frost line is in your area to avoid any heaving of the patio down the road from freezing.Helpful Reply

CR Draves . com on Aug 25, 2011If you never build a pation deck before, you might want to get a book that has step by step directions. Usually at Home Depot or Lowes there is a book section that deals with deck building. C.R. DravesHelpful Reply

Shane Tallant on Aug 25, 2011Pamela- It can be done DIY, but the most important step is grading/leveling the ground. Once that is done, the hardscape can be laid relatively easy. Maybe you could hire someone to get you a nicely leveled base and then attempt the install yourself. GOOD LUCK!!Helpful Reply

Joe Washington on Aug 25, 201189 stone provides a good base for pavers, if that's the route you decide to go. It's easy to compact and provides excellent drainage.Helpful Reply
