Linda on Nov 06, 2014Of course, the first thing is to decide on color and length. I have made many simple curtains when I was younger. Trying to remember back, I preferred to do 1 1/2 or 2 times the width of the window so it still has some 'gathers' when pulled shut. At the top, you will need a 'hem' to slide over the rod. Don't make it too tight. I like the bottom hem to be about 3". You could do tabs for over the rod, instead. OR buy a pattern. I once did the swag/jabot combination with a pattern. They were really nice, with a window blind behind them. I have bought material, and have used a sheet for the material. Good luck!Helpful Reply
