Should I paint the ceiling?

Dee W on Sep 27, 2012Hi Tyler, do you have gutters? If you do, they sell hooks that can be used just for that. If not you might want to try small teacup hooks. They have a screw on the end and you can twist them right into your wood. The ceiling-I like the idea of a color, but I would stick with the white so it stays nice and bright on your porch. But you know what you like. Can't wait to see what you do with the steps and here!Helpful Reply

Z on Sep 27, 2012What does your Mom think Tyler? Though I love bright colors, this is too much for a porch ceiling in my opinion. I think you should ask your Mom's opinion first. If you want to add some bright colors I'd suggest doing so in the garden lighting or maybe some potted plants to set on the steps outside the railing. You're little ghosts are cute. Are they lights too?Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Sep 28, 2012Tyler, you are so enthusiastic -- I love your atitude and energy. Loving bright colors is a fault of mine too so I have to tell you that I have to be careful and listen to others when chosing colors! The green is lovely...I used something similiar on my porch furniture this spring, but it was a collection of colors for a total effect....and they are hidden behind brick arches. And softer tones work better...one without so much punch! Use more toned down colors and accent with bright pieces! As for the lights, they can be a problem. String lights are the best for low lighting without attracting bugs. Get or make a wooden trellis...it can be simple...and lean it against the back wall between a couple of chairs or in a corner with a table in front. You will get the same effect without punching holes in your metal. Attached is a photo of colors....some people will gasp and many will love them.Helpful Reply

Tyler S on Sep 28, 2012@Dee W - No I don't have a gutter. It sucks! lol! I am thinking about buying a hooks, I think I know what I should do now.. I have a perfect idea! I will keep you informed!! @Z - My mom wasn't sure about the green steps, and the green ceiling, so I explain it more about it.. she said, "alright, go ahead, but if I don't like it, you will have to repaint." I said "yay!" hahah! Also, the ghost is the light! Its cute! I like them. :) @Jeanette S - That is an amazing advice! I do really love your porch so much. It catches a lot of people attention, I applaud for you. You should give yourself a pat on the back, because you have felt so accomplish of having a wonderful porch, I bet you go out and sit on your porch and have coffee everyday! :) I would do the same. :) Also, Christmas light are PERFECT because hardly any bugs come to it. More like HARDLY any. I am proud of that. @Lori J - I was thinking of a command hooks, but I want do use my idea for the lighting thing too. I am about to change it to see if I like it or not. @KMS Woodworks - Maybe I can use a blue, but I feel like it would be a too much blue, because the trailer is blue. LOL!Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Sep 28, 2012Tyler, green on the ceiling is fine...but on the steps, they will get very dirty! Keep that in mind! A great job can be ruined when it gets tarnished with dirt. My porch floor is a brick like color and it shows dirt a lot more than I would like.Helpful Reply

Peace Painting Co., Inc. on Oct 01, 2012For good metal paint go to a paint store like Sher-Wms and pick up 'Direct to Metal' (DTM) or their MetaLatex. It looks better when sprayed but you can brush it also.Helpful Reply

Mary Insana on Oct 02, 2012Here's an idea I use on ceilings. I take some white paint and add a very small amout of the wall paint and mix. Paint a little on white poster board and hold it up to the ceiling or tape it up. If you like it then theres your coordinating color, it you want more of a tint add a little more of the green and repeat until you get the color you like. I get so many compliments on my ceil colors.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Oct 03, 2012Mary Insana, funny you should say this because I was in a very elegant home a week or so ago and I noticed that the elaborate trim was not white but an off white. Not being white, it added years before they would have to paint because it is very often the discoloring and nicks on molding that makes us want to paint.Helpful Reply

Sharon E on Oct 22, 2012Painting the ceiling a sky blue would not only look great but wasp, etc., wont build because it looks like the sky. This is proven. When I paint my porch it will be blue for sure. Good luck with whatever you decide.Helpful Reply
