Welcome Pollinators With These Direct Sow Seeds

It’s that time of year I like to stock up on a few of my favorite direct sow seeds that welcome the bees and butterflies to my home garden. These seeds can be planted in late April early May and enjoyed for most of the summer into the late frost. Not only are these flowers beautiful when they bloom but a piece of art as they begin to grow.
Zinnias

I direct sow ( plant directly in the ground ) over a dozen different zinnia varieties in the late spring. I love how the butterflies enjoy dancing with them.

Sunflowers
My first sunflower seed was started by accident about 20 years ago and I’ve been throwing those seeds in the garden ever sense. Sunflowers are most likely the best plant to get the bang for your buck! They are super cheap and totally make a statement in the landscape with their long steams and outstanding display of color. Sunflowers also seem to last longer than most late summer flowers being able to tolerate heat and other extreme conditions in my Ohio garden.

I hope you consider direct sowing some zinnias and sunflowers this summer in your home garden.
Adding plants that welcome pollinators is CRUCIAL in my home veggie garden!

throw in some milkweed and Monarchs will lay eggs there. You'll have cocoons and new butterflies in your garden.
