I have searched high and low to find 2 identical "vintage looking" window shutters that match in color.

Peace Painting Co., Inc. on Oct 19, 2011You could sand both down to wood then stain and varnish for a normal look, or give them a unique or period look. For the unique approach, go to a kitchen showroom and select a finish to duplicate. There are numerous really cool finishes that would go well. Once you see what you like, sneek a picture and run it by Hometalk again for input on application. One of my favorite types of finish is a wash; it's like a heavy colored stain with wood showing through. The green shutter has an interesting finish. Best, CharlesHelpful Reply

Peace Painting Co., Inc. on Oct 20, 2011That's a good point. And if you don't want to paint the scrolling, brush off the scaly surface rust with a sanding sponge then apply a coat of satin or flat polyurethane to give it a clean look. CPHelpful Reply

Paint A on Oct 25, 2011I would sand or strip it down to bare wood. Then go to your local home improvment store, they have great selections on wood stains. You can actually use the color chart with samples on actual wood to get a good look. Its great way to start fresh you know what you used and you wont have the trouble trying to match the stain that was previously appliedHelpful Reply
