  • Welcome to Karen's beautiful 2 story plus basement home! Come on in!
  • Karen is known online as The Graphics Fairy. She specializes in free vintage clipart as well as a DIY blog where she shows what to do with it. She's on Hometalk at: http://www.hometalk.com/thegraphicsfairy
  • Imperfect perfection - a distressed black kitchen table is a true sign of warmth and casual. Coffee anyone? (her coffee was good too!)
  • Layers matter - platters holding dried hydrangeas are the perfect centrepiece, offering colour and a little bit of the outdoors.
  • Store it - vintage baskets and boxes store kitchen essentials. Bringing in wood tones offers warmth like nothing else.
  • Bring the outdoors in - a giant cloche on a wood round holding succulents brightens up this cool coffee table.
  • Group for impact - tarnished gold trophies are the perfect way to bring vintage bling into your vignettes. Grouping like minded components also gives you more bang for your buck.
  • Mix up overscale and small - statement pieces like this clock offer an amazing focal point, perfect for above a fireplace.
  • Fill things up - dried hydrangeas find their way into this sweet trophy used as a vase.
  • Tell a story - this lovely, airy bedroom with sheer curtains overlooks a meadow. The room colour marries the view perfectly!
  • Details count - the angel wings add an interesting quirk to this lovely tall armoire. It wouldn't have been the same without them! 1
  • Beautiful storage - Karen collects LOTS of paper, so she's found ways to avoid the big box stationery store and goes vintage instead with drawers, wire baskets, and bookshelves. 1
  • Make it yours - and sometimes we just need a little art around us for no other reason than to adore it.

A full home tour that'll knock your socks off! - The Graphics Fairy

Do you ever wish there was an official guidebook on how to decorate your home? When is there too much stuff? When is there not enough? ...»

Karen, who goes by The Graphics Fairy on her blog, has it DOWN. I recently had the privilege of spending a few days with her during the #htlucketts event and took advantage of the chance to shoot Karen's home.

Guys, this home is so inspiring. I'd call her style upscale vintage minimalist. She has JUST the right amount of everything, it's productive AND beautiful!

There's more to this tour via the blog link, however here's lots to get you started, loaded with some decor advice.

I only have one question... where's her BAD junk?! :)

Could you stand to get rid of too much stuff and go Karen style?

Our 2013 Coastal Mantel

My love for the beach (and living a few miles from the ocean) inspired our simple coastal mantel.

Paper Quilled Monogram

Created from colored cardstock. This project ended up as a wedding gift, and cost just pennies to make. Would be a perfect, personalized gift.

Adding More Whimsy to My Garden

I found this sweet statuette at TJ Maxx - already on clearance!

She dances through life with a ballerina's elegance and her presence is a joy for those around her. Gucci

Painting: I knew I should have taken a different route home.

But, I didn't. I drove right past the vintage shop and turned around and yes, I went in the shop. Lo and behold, this is what I walked out with. Never mind that I haven't even started on ...»
the vintage chaise or the wonderful crate! But tell me, would you have left this in the store? Now comes the question.....do I leave it as is or shall I paint? I'm thinking I'll use in the lanai. It's a pretty sturdy piece and vintage for sure. I would say 40s or 50s. I think it looks good as is, but wanted to get some opinions. Thanks.

If you use metal cleaner, it will remove the PATINA which gives it the antique charm. If you ...»
use anything besides a mild dish soap it may remove the patina. You have a GREAT FIND, Please sell it before you ever remove the patina or paint it. I wouldn't wax or use any kind of coating because it will interfere with the natural developement of the patina. If you decide to sell it, bring it to an antique dealer, and they will gladly take it as is but you should have the finial attatched, proffessionaly. I have spent a lot of time on discussing this gorgeous piece, but I feel very strongly about it. I am jealous that I didn't find it first. :)

  • Succulent Gardens are easy to create and super easy to care for.
  • We used PVC pipe and cut it at an angle
  • Spray painted with stone paint
  • Fill with pea gravel for drainage and soil. Then planted the succulents.
  • Some of the plants were also planted in the ground.
  • Since there were some questions about Indoor Succulent Gardens, I thought I would add a photo of the one we created for indoors. They do great indoors.
