Faux painting colors that compliment each other?

I have a large hallway with tall ceilings I painted turquoise, my home is western decor. I believe the size of the hall creates too much and need ideas to compliment the color. I have a lot of lite wood trim (log siding) inside and out. Suggestions?

Turquoise is a great color because there are so many complimentary colors that go with it! You can use aqua, beige, blue, gray, silver, white, green and yellow. If you think of a picture of a sunny day at the beach and all the colors and then just pick a few colors that look good with the turquoise you have on the walls. You said you have tall ceilings so I would get a large silver tone mirror or maybe one that is made from driftwood. You will need a large light fixture so it doesn't get lost in the large space. I could go on but I don't know if you already have furniture or art work and I don't know your budget but I hope that you get the idea. If you want more, perhaps a picture and more info would help the readers. I am quite wiling to add more if you want! Smiles!
  • Sandra has some great suggestions! I when you take some of those photos, I really recommend uploading them at one of the on-line paint visualizers to give yourself a sneak preview... Even if the colors aren't spot on, it will give you an idea of how it would look in YOUR hallway. Less guessing and you can change your mind with the click of a button :)

What are you trying to do? Paint the walls? What is on the floor? How long and wide is the hallway? Is there room for furniture along the walls of the hallway? I think an ombré effect based on the color you already have would be gorgeous and subtle enough not to make the hall seem longer. If the ceilings are tall enough, a hanging light fixture that is not overly western. I mean, no horse shoes or cowboy hats, instead use black metal, amber colored glass teardrop chandelier in an appropriate scale to fit the hallway. If room along the walls, place narrow tables, a turquoise faux leather bench seat, art work of a western sunrise or sunset, and/or a mirror with an ornate silver frame. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy the decorating process and results. Post some pics when you are done.

Pewter or Gray or Silver would go with the Turquoise. Either as Picture Frames, Painted Furniture, Accent Pieces, Collectables, Western style Wall hangings or Bright Navajoes woven or Quilts etc.. What color is the Ceiling and just how big is the Hallway? You could paint the Ceiling light weathered Gray ... Depends on how much you want to spend? maybe paint part of the Wall Grayish Silver ? weathered Barn wood in The Gray tones for Frames ?

I like Jean Thompson's idea. You can add some chocolate Browns along the way to sort of give it a bit of a foundation. But. Look at most turquoise jewlery and you will see silver. Mid tha't too bright, do pewter. Think you will be okay.

I saw a home improvement site using an aprox. 4" wide x 6" high shelf installed in the hallway about 1 to 2 foot above your head. This was used for display. Made the hallway look less tall and added a feature to it.

I would consider using a semi-transparent stain on a silver (to mimic weathered wood) or brown tone on the logs. The light wood may be clashing with the turquoise. I love the pic of the fabric hanging. A western blanket in a mix of warm colors (rust, brown, orange) that would go with your turquoise would be a great way to fill the space, and warmup the entry. You may consider adding moulding 7-9 feet up and using a medium to dark brown above it. It would make the ceiling feel lower & give the feeling of a more cozy room. Here's a little inspiration pic. Remember, textures add a lot in decor. Colored baskets (even hung on the wall) area rugs, pillows etc. it's those things that reflect your style and make a house feel like a home. I love turquoise. Great choice of color!

Pure White and Brown picture frames would look stunning. Remember you can take almost anything and spray paint it any color you want. I love doing this.

Incidently, turquoise and gold (either metallic or not) are THE signature colours of the style known as 'Hollywood Glam' (1920's & 30's) which was the exact same time in which the last remaining true cowboys came to work in and become idolized through the motion picture business (read the fascinating historical drama 'The Englishman's Boy' by Guy Vanderhaeghe to get a true-to-life picture of how cowboy culture and Hollywood Glam colours might co-mingle with each other!)
