price on vinyl windows?

3po3 on Jan 01, 2012There are a lot of variables to consider here, but I find the Remodeling Magazine Cost vs. Value Report to be a valuable estimator. This report estimates about $11,000 in your area to replace 10 existing 3-by-5-foot double-hung windows with insulated vinyl windows. It has a relatively high return on investment (only 56 percent, but better than most projects). They estimate the steel door replacement at $1,200, with a 50 percent return on investment. Nationally, the steel entry door replacement has the best return on investment of all projects surveyed, at 73 percent. Not sure why it is so much lower in your area. Also, these are both projects where you want experience and attention to detail over cheapest price. The windows and doors have to be installed, insulated and sealed correctly to maximize energy efficiency. You will quickly make up the potential extra cost in energy bill savings.Helpful Reply

3po3 on Jan 07, 2012The contractor should be able to give you any information you need. Of course, the quality rating of the windows is somewhat subjective, but you should be able to get all the information you need about energy ratings, etc., from the contractor or direct from the Andersen site - http://www.andersenwindows.com/Helpful Reply
