Need help choosing a paint color for my kitchen

Question

I posted before I filled you all in on what we wanted to do. We are having the wallpaper taken down and the walls painted. All the trim will be white, as we have some natural wood also. The floor is a beige tile, we have multi-colored green tile as backsplash which will remain. We do get a lot of light in the kitchen; I am not sure what color is best for honey oak cabinets - we will be putting new black hardware on cabinets, new fixture over the table, and pendant lighting over the island. Any ideas will be appreciated - so many colors out there!

My personal opinion would be to pull out a shade of a green from the backsplash, since the countertops and floor are beige.I would select a few to choose from and get samples to test. A lot of paints colors look very different in the store then they do in your home.

I agree with Janet about painting the room green. My kitchen is painted 'Rejuvenate' by Behr. I think green will lighten up the room and give it a fresh feeling. Definitely buy small samples; colors look different at different times of the day due to the difference in lighting.

Thank you both. Actually the countertops are white, not beige. The floor is beige. We also have a very small laundry room when you come in the back door and a small 'butlers panty' cut through to the dining room. The dining room is painted two shades of creamy/yellow, so perhaps I should paint the butler pantry area a different color, if I were go to with green? We are having the paper professionally removed, and walls painted, so I don't have a lot of time to have paint on the walls, having left it to the last minute :(

Yes, I do have extra tiles. They are multi-colored with bluish green, sage green ... I will post a photo of the tiles later.

I've remodeled several houses similar to your kitchen and the best most cheerful gorgeous color has been Sherwin-Williams' 'Gold Vessel' . 
 It is a warm dense creamy yellow that just enhances wood colors and makes everything and everyone feel happy even if it's dark and cold outside , my favorite color !

colors can be deceiving in different lights day and store light, yellow might not blend with your tiles, and it also depends on the white you have there are different bases in in whites, yellow, blue, red.... Green goes with just about everything if its the right green, look at nature and all the greens outside,,,,

I think a light turquoise, or aqua, would look great, it blends well with greens, it is a light bright happy color that will lighten up your wall!

I will post a photo of the tile and also the floor.  I am familiar with some BM paints that go with the oak, the tricky thing is the tile.  It could be painted, but have been advised not to do that.  We are thinking of selling in a year or two and just want to update slightly.

Grey is the new neutral!  With the stainless appliances I think it would look great.  I have a soft grey in my kitchen and I love it.

Here is my two cents, considering ALL of the information you have supplied, including the fact that you are likely selling. Go with a very 'white' white for the trim, and an ever so slightly creamier white for the walls.

i think white or light gray would be a very good color. Its pretty dark in there and it will make it lighter in the area, and it will make it look bigger !!!

I went to the website Connie Nikiforoff Designs suggested. What a great site for people needing help. Ty Connie. I just love BMoore Agave AF-420 second choice is SW Harts of Palm 6415. I guess it would depend on the green of your tiles. Pls let us know what colour you chose.

Caan't really see the colours in the tile. Would be tempted to go creamy white on trim since you have beige tile and countertops. Thinking a soft green picked up from your backsplash would be nice with the honey oak. Think I'd remove the curtain valence to make the most of the nice big window.

The kitchen looks very dark, if that's the case, I would rather paint the cabinets white and then the walls any color to match the tile. It would be a real change .

When I am stuck on what color to choose, I use the Benjamin Moore Color Capture app on my phone. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/for-your-home/color-capture Take a picture (in the light that is closest to what is normally in the room) then it will analyze it and will provide you with similar, but also complementary colors to the one in the photo. In this case, I think you need to factor in the green tile- some greens are blueish, some are gray, some are yellow, so you want to get that right. Everything else in the room is pretty neutral, so you don't need to worry about those as much.

When people ask me to help decorate their homes and color is usually something they have a hard time choosing I have them take the colors that will be staying in the room to a fabric store. We find a fabric that has those colors in it and other colors. Then it is easy to choose colors for walls and fabrics and accessories etc. fabric designers carefully choose what colors to use and are harmonious to the eye. I have used a patterned piece of fabric to choose a color scheme for an entire house and that way it flowed from one room to another easily even when changing wall colors. The key is to use one color in each room somehow to relate each room to each other. Good luck!

Thank  you all for your suggestions, really appreciate them.  Right now I think we are looking at BM Polar Frost or Valspar Montpelier Madison White (although I am not so in favor of this one), or the other one is BM Muskoka Trail.  The choice is really overwhelming.  I hesitate to go with something too green - the tiles have various shades of green, white/cream in them.  My main goal is to freshen the room up - neutralize it since we are thinking of selling in a year or two, but I will make it warm with wall art, curtains, etc.

Sounds really nice - I love purple.  If we were planning to stay, then I would go more dramatic, but thinking more right now of just a mini-update a bit more neutral.  Can you post a photo, would love to see what you did.
