3po3 on Feb 23, 2012I wrote an article about this a while back - http://www.networx.com/article/soundproofing-for-a-better-nights-sleep In my research, experts said the most effective thing is resilient channels, which are described here, and should be professionally installed: http://soundproofing.org/infopages/channel.htmHelpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Feb 24, 2012the insulation will help...but a physical "break" in surface finishes will also help. Look into a product called Homasote 440...this is widely used and designed just for this purposeHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 24, 2012Where are you planning to put the R-30 insulation? If your thinking about doing floor between the basement and the 1st floor level and have heating or cooling system in basement area your wasting your hard earned money on that. If your using the basement and the noise is disruptive to what ever your doing in basement, You can purchase sound deadening Sheetrock that you would fasten to a metal grid system to deaden the noise. Of course putting insulation in will muffle noise as well, but you need to cover it so the glass fibers do not spread in the air if disturbed and if you use a vapor barrier you will need to cover it anyway for fire safety.Helpful Reply

LandlightS on Feb 24, 2012We are adding the insulation to the bottom of the sub floor from the basement, and then we will drywall the ceiling in the office. The other areas of the basement will have a dropped ceiling. Planning on having the facing placed towards the basement area. We will install the sound deading drywall to the metal grid systemHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 24, 2012Do not use faced insulation here, you do not want any vapor barrier on either side. Only use where there is an outside wall involved. Not between conditioned spaces.Helpful Reply
