Drd4223999 on Mar 08, 2016I think I would paint it because it would make your room appear larger, your ceiling higher. I like your wall paint color a lot. Maybe consider a backsplash of glass tiles? Would add texture and pop without too much cost since the area appears smallish. And you could go either vintage or contemporary in design. I think using a color that picks up the countertops and cabinets would be subtle and smart. Just a thought... Love to see your progressHelpful Reply

KatAych on Mar 08, 2016Beautiful color! I'd leave it above the cabinets, too. It's a really nice contrast to the white. Are you thinking of putting anything up there? Display plates? Typography?Helpful Reply

Kelley MacKay on Mar 08, 2016I agree with drdyson1204....if painted white it will draw your eye up and the room/cabinets will appear larger. I feel the blue chops the wall and makes the cabinets look short (just my opinion)Helpful Reply

Shari on Mar 08, 2016I think it is a personal preference but if this were my kitchen, yes, I would be inclined to paint the soffitt area above the cabinets white. Because that area between the ceiling and the top of the upper cabinets seems taller than most soffitt areas I've seen, it gives the appearance, at least in the photo, that your upper cabinets look too low or too short and squaty. Painting that area white would minimize that illusion by making the cabinets and ceiling look taller. If you've got the extra paint and the time, I would at least try it. If you don't like it white, you could always repaint it again in blue (but usually when your instinct, or that little voice in your head, tells you something, it is generally the *right* answer).Helpful Reply

Beth H. Makemeprettyagain.blogspot on Mar 08, 2016It's too bad you weren't able to raise those cabinets. they seem awfully low to the countertop. Standard is about 18". I also like the current color. You can always put in a backsplash (remove the 4" one that is currently there) with some nice blue tile and then paint above the cabinets white like you want. i feel if you do it, it's going to look blah. There needs to be some sort of visual interest. Also try a cafe rod w/a pretty curtainHelpful Reply

Heidi on Mar 09, 2016If you think the white is too boring then go ahead and decorate it. What is your décor? You can purchase plates that complement your décor and hang them, purchase your last name letter, paint it blue and center it, purchase old kitchen copper jello molds and hang them, the list is endless.Helpful Reply
