Valerie A on Mar 11, 2012Both. Our desert land doesn't, exactly, make grass look good. Artificial turf or lawn alternatives are more up my alley. I don't like mowing the lawn in the summer because it's WAY too hot. So, what do you suggest, Mr. Douglas Hunt? Thank you KMS Woodworks.Helpful Reply

Flowerscapes Garden Design & Landscaping on Mar 11, 2012There is a small mall in Cumming, GA called The Avenue. The artificial turf there looks real, even when you are standing on it. Maybe you can google The Avenue and get some clues.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Mar 12, 2012Valerie, I am much more in the lawn alternative camp. For one thing, I would be extremely concerned about surface temperatures of artificial turf, which can soar above the ambient temperature. You might consider Turfallo, a hybrid grass developed in Texas that grows to only 3 inches and can get by on only 10 inches of water a year. http://today.ttu.edu/2005/03/drought-tolerant-turfgrass-provides-sensible-alternative-to-thirsty-lawns/ Or consider a "lawn" of native Texas sedges: http://ag.arizona.edu/yavapai/anr/hort/byg/archive/sedges.htmlHelpful Reply

Global Syn-Turf on Feb 04, 2015@Valerie A, for a desert backyard, I recommend Global Syn-Turf's W Blade-80 (http://www.globalsynturf.com/products/7/). W-Shape blade is the next generation of Stemgrass. Due to its light-diffusing properties, W-shaped artificial grass leaves retain less heat energy than other types of turf -- it measures 15 degrees cooler than any other synthetic turf on the market -- which prevents overheating on hot summer days. We also have a warehouse in El Paso that you can check out some time and pick up free samples at 12134 Esther Lama Drive #200, El Paso, TX 79936. Or call us at 877-796-8873.Helpful Reply
