Pam Walker on Apr 23, 2016WASH your porch with a solution of Dawn dishwashing detergent & water. Use a scrubby mop. Rinse & repeat 1 more time to insure all areas are clean before painting. Let dry for 24 hours. Use an outdoor primer that resists moisture. Let it dry 24 hours. Use outdoor paint (with moisture control too) & let each coat dry 24 hours. I know it's alot of time & it's not quick-drying but when we did this process to ours, it lasted about 15 years before having to repaint. And, anything spilled on it was easily mopped up or wiped up with some paper towels. We chose gray paint to match the look of the cement. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Skyval on Apr 23, 2016The above comment seems like the best way but just in case you can't do all that for whatever reason , I've just used Porch and Floor paint and it works great and covers everything , just wash floor well and let dry for a day , then apply floor paint...Done !Helpful Reply

AmyG on Apr 23, 2016in 2004 we tore up all the carpet - filled in the holes from the carpet tack strips with DAP Vinyl Patch, sanded smooth - washed good and rinsed the floors. We primed with KILZ primer - faux painted the floor with a base of grey and sponge painted a taupe and tan flat paint - using a feather made veins to hide the concrete cracks - that was topped with 4 coats of water based polyurethane - with teenagers, 3 dogs and the floors in 1800 sq feet have held up great. I clean with a steam mop and about once a year I put Future or mop and glow on the floors.Helpful Reply

CoCo on Apr 23, 2016Some of thee most beautiful concrete floors I've ever seen were stained. You can free form, do patterns like brick or pavers or you can use a stencil to do a specific design. All are just gorgeous. Google "Concrete Staining"Helpful Reply

Liz on Apr 23, 2016We checked all the concrete paints online ratings and this was the most highly rated. INSL-X Sure Step. It comes in lots of colors. It's made for concrete and penetrates into the concrete to form an acrylic anti-slip coating. It's fast drying and has high traffic resistance. It can be used for interior/exterior. We bought the Saddle Brown color.Helpful Reply

Suellen Hintz on Apr 23, 2016My friend had painted concrete floors in her house. They painted with appropriate type paints, using a blue, green, and brown, then sanding down to show a variety of the colors, including some bare concrete. It was then sealed shiny. Beautiful outcome, looked like old floors but we're new. Paint store folks can help you pick out the correct products. Would tsp cleaner work? If you used an aged technique like this, toenails shouldn't matter.Helpful Reply

Donna Radtke on Apr 23, 2016Acrylic paint. Doesn't have to be special. Always use it on concrete floors under adhesive tile so it adheres well too, even in a basement.Helpful Reply

Cindy Hagemann on Apr 24, 2016We painted our basement concrete floors and we have 3 dogs. You sweep, clean it, then apply concrete sealer, then 2 -3 coats of concrete paint. Letting each coat dry 24 hours in between.Helpful Reply

Lynnette on Apr 25, 2016I painted my porch but with 5 dogs and 4 kids it didn't take long to wear off, though maybe I didn't seal it well enough even with following instructions. A friend had her concrete stained and it was beautiful Might want to look at staining.Helpful Reply
