Tree Stump

KMS Woodworks on Jun 16, 2013I have seen this in the woods before, and believe it is just a bit of moisture reacting with some of the natural compounds in the wood as decay begins. Do you want to get rid of this stump? It it is big you can call a "grinding" service. Smaller ones can be nibbled away at at you are doing. One trick to speed the process is to drill a lot of holes in it using a paddle bit...this will trap rain water and speed the rot process.Helpful Reply

Maggie D on Jun 16, 2013I'd love to get rid of the stump, but it would be expensive if I call someone in. Chipping away at it keeps me busy - sometimes it really annoys me that it's there because it's taking up valuable real estate in the limited patio I have. The stump & it's branches are everywhere, as you can imagine. I'd say it's about 3' across. It was a biggie, so you can imagine the root spread. Thanks for your input.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jun 16, 2013You can rent a stump grinder if your into that sort of stuff, not to hard to do, but you need something to transport it because its heavy. Or you can do the chemical route. Drill several holes in the stump and purchase this product made just for this type of job. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Spectracide-1-lb-Stump-Remover-HG-66420-4/202097353#.Ub3Mc9io24IHelpful Reply

Maggie D on Jun 16, 2013I'd love to get into the stump and grind it myself - unfortunately, would need an extra set of hands - this is right up my alley. I lived in NJ and had a huge tree stump and heard about the technique you're suggesting. Thanks so much.Helpful Reply
