How to remove a tree stump from a raised flower bed?

I planted a tree when it was small and had been for years. It grew too big and was pushing the landscaping stones out of place. I cut it down but now have a stump left and would like to plant something there.

Don't fight against it ,hollow it out and plant in it. This will create a nice focal point for your yard.

depends how much of a hurry you are in. If you really want it out now, it is lots of hard work with a spade and a saw. If not you could leave it to die naturally and will be much easier to pull out as it rots. In the meantime you could use it as a feature and plant around it.

There is stuff you can buy that will increase the rate of decay. I put a big container on top of my the stump and planted little annuals all around it . Clearly I am in the D Roach school of let nature do most of the work : )

I had the same problem. So I planted a couple of little bushes around it. I then put curved edging around it. The bushes now hide the stump.

First of all, I would cut holes into the stump. Then there are solutions that you can place in the stump, to help it decay faster. Ask at the elevator or at Lowe's, and this will help it decay. This may take 12-18 mo., but it will be worth the wait just to do it accurately. OK?
