Little Gems is It Dying ??

This one I know I bought it 2 years ago and have never had a problem but it looks like something is eating it or is it dying ???? I have never pruned it .I have another one on the other side of my yard and it looks great nothing at all wrong with it so I am puzzled ???
Dying or is something eating it up ?? or should I prune it, if so i have researching to do ..It has new growth on the bottom and a lot of buds waiting to bloom
The healthy one :)

Have you had much rain or do you hand water them? It doesn't look like a pest, more like a water or nutrition issue going on with the roots not being able to sustain the tree.

I would check with your local extension agent to see if they can figure out what is causing your problem.

I agree with Donna about the water. I have two Little Gems. There was a sprinkler failure while I was away for a while and one lost a substantial amount of leaves, which it is still recovering from.

Mine did the same thing...I went out one day to check yet again, and see if I could figure out what was going on. I pulled slightly on a branch, tree fell over. A chipmunk or mole or something had eaten tunnels underneath it, causing considerable damage to the roots. I cried, put on my big girl boots and placed better quality soil around her, fertilizer, watered and stomped it all hard. I covered her with mulch and hoped. She is still alive a year later but still not a happy tree. I just keep trying! <PS I have not seen the pesky chipmunks OR moles this year and I do not miss them>

I know what you mean. There are two shrub like trees outside if my bedroom that have always been fairly healthy before but over the past few years have become troubled. Perhaps get someone out to assess what's going on? Until then I'd keep watering and pray for the best. :-) Don't lose hope!
