Little Gems is It Dying ??

360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on Jun 19, 2013Have you had much rain or do you hand water them? It doesn't look like a pest, more like a water or nutrition issue going on with the roots not being able to sustain the tree.Helpful Reply

Catherine Smith on Jun 20, 2013I would check with your local extension agent to see if they can figure out what is causing your problem.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jun 20, 2013I agree with Donna about the water. I have two Little Gems. There was a sprinkler failure while I was away for a while and one lost a substantial amount of leaves, which it is still recovering from.Helpful Reply

Wendy B on Jun 20, 2013Mine did the same thing...I went out one day to check yet again, and see if I could figure out what was going on. I pulled slightly on a branch, tree fell over. A chipmunk or mole or something had eaten tunnels underneath it, causing considerable damage to the roots. I cried, put on my big girl boots and placed better quality soil around her, fertilizer, watered and stomped it all hard. I covered her with mulch and hoped. She is still alive a year later but still not a happy tree. I just keep trying! <PS I have not seen the pesky chipmunks OR moles this year and I do not miss them>Helpful Reply

April on Jun 20, 2013I know what you mean. There are two shrub like trees outside if my bedroom that have always been fairly healthy before but over the past few years have become troubled. Perhaps get someone out to assess what's going on? Until then I'd keep watering and pray for the best. :-) Don't lose hope!Helpful Reply
