Do you recommend painting the inside of a fence?

I have a small patio and think about painting my fence on the inside so I can put some colorful decor up. Is this a good idea?

Sure! Consider an opaque stain for this - it looks like paint but holds up so much better outdoors. :)

Hello. I would suggest just to think about the paint product or stain product you might consider using.

We are very unhappy with the product we chose to use on our large deck and we used a exterior wood product that was labeled-supposed to last seven years. It was a solid paint stain. It is not performing with our outdoor exposure requires application every couple years.

Using a wood tone product might be better than a solid stain in as far as you won’t see the weathering chipping and flaking. We certainly regret not using the Woodtones clear products even though they are only our label to last a couple years at least their appearance in a more pleasing way.

    Hello,

Yes if you want a job for life, or you could use fence stain and preserver - comes in colours for choice.......

    • Not really, but it depends on where you live. It looks more complicated than it is. For instance, I live where it turns into a blazing inferno in summer with non existent humidity. Everything fades within a month or two. Expect to slap a coat on every spring. If you live where it snows, less concern of fading, but may peel. I say go for it and see how you like it. It's only paint or stain, you can't really go wrong.

I love the idea. However, once you paint it you will have more upkeep. You could go with decor only if you don’t want to paint down the line. For a bit more color, hang an indoor outdoor rug on the fence as a backdrop.

Is there a reason why you can't paint both inside and outside to add some color?

Thank you I’m going to go with that idea and then paint some fun scene on the fence portion that faces into the condo. I think it will be fun and pretty

Yes you can do that, but will need to refresh every couple of years.

Why not? If the color makes you happy go for it. Plus a coat of paint might even help the wood last a little longer. We all need a splash of color in our lives.

  • Sure! Be sure to prep well and use an outdoor paint.

Stain would be a better choice since it soaks into the wood and paint just sits on the surface.

Painting or staining a wood fence can totally change the look of the area. Different colors withstand the sun better than others but go for a color you love and when it fades redo it to another! I've seen several gardeners paint their fences a dark charcoal and the plants against it stand out like crazy! Have fun!

Unless you have an vision in mind that you can only achieve with paint, a stain is a better choice for your wooden fences. It lasts much longer, even when faced with harsh weather conditions. When it does begin to fade, it does so evenly, as opposed to paint, which chips and flakes, creating a worn look.

Painting the inside of your fence can make a huge change in the feel of your patio. It provides a "frame" to the area just as a frame can accent a photograph or art. Great idea! Go for it!

Absolutely, that's a great way to add more character to the space and customize to your taste! If you're using it as a background for other things, I recommend going with something neutral that will allow colorful decorations to pop.

Yes, it's a great idea! It can change the entire "mood" of the area and a space that you'll enjoy even more. Go for it!

Hi Eversoblessed65. Sounds good to me. Is the fence wooden or plastic? If plastic, use Rustoleum or Krylon spray paint for plastic. If wood, you can use most latex paints.

  • I would use a tinted stain. It will weather better and you won't have to paint it so often to keep the color fresh!
