I have tried a lot of different non toxic things and combinations. I am trying to kill mostly ferns that have taken over every bed I have. Nothing has worked yet, my next try is Salt, Vinegar, dish soap, and borax, that is my latest read up. Don't know if it will work but I am going to give it a try. I also read that baking soda is good sprinkled in sidewalk cracks, I think I will give that a try in between my patio pavers.
Believe it or not, I've had luck removing patches of weeds and growth between pavers, sidewalk cracks, etc by pouring boiling water on the area. Heat it in a tea kettle and our it right on.
Please be aware that many "natural" products contain Eugenol (oil of cloves). Oil of cloves has been reported to ATTRACT Japanese beetles and other pests which then die once exposed to it. Just an FYI, sometimes the "natural" way isn't the best. The website www.geeksofgardens.com has a number of salt/vinegar/soap suggestions for removal of both weeds and grass. Also, it's ok to have some weeds in your lawn. The bees like them.
Add Epson salt to vinegar dish soap mix. That will help weed take up the vinegar which kills it. Personally it does not bother me to have weeds in lawn. That's natures way to provide clover and blooms that help bees.
Both vinegar and salt will kill everything. Vinegar will also make the soil sterile for a while.....which makes it great for cracks between pavers but not so good for lawns and gardens.
Sorry I never knew about the Eugenol in the product. It has been awhile of not being in contact with vendors that I actually bought the products from. I was just trying to think of a natural solution.
For large individual weeds, cut the off close to the ground and immediately pour vinegar over the open area of stem still in the ground. The plant will absorb it and kill it to the roots.
I live in a Mobile Home and used it around the edges so I wouldn't have to use weed eater and nick the skirting. But yes it will kill grass but not fast like other thing do. just be selective where you use it.

Home Depot should sell a product from Eco Smart as a natural weed killer.

I've used the vinegar, dish soap and salt and it works takes a little longer to kill usually 2 applications did the trick. on some was just 1 time.
@Frances That did not kill your grass?

Mix vinegar, salt and dish soap in a spray bottle and spray on the weeds. They will wilt and die in about a week.
do you have measurements of this
