Any ideas for painting a backspash in my kitchen?
-
Designs by BSB on May 16, 2012With paint it would be tedious to create a brick pattern - and it can be very subjective to water around the sink area. Is there a reason you are leaning towards paint? Maybe consider a paneling with the pattern? The only disadvantage is the seams - depending on how long of a run it is.Helpful Reply

Carol B on May 20, 2012Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas. My backsplash is currently Marilite, don't know if that is spelled correctly. It matches the countertop. I would say it's a 50"s kitchen. My cabinets are metal which I have painted them already & would like a different backsplash. I don't want to go to a great expense that is why I thought of painting it. I will probably put a coat of poly on it to seal it if I do choose paint. It's not a real big area.Maybe total of about 8ft. I have a switch plate on the wall & that's why I wasn't considering paneling.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on May 21, 2012Before you decide to paint, you need to find out what, if anything, will adhere to your surface. Consult with a paint suppy store. Consider plexi glass. You would have to premeasure and drill your holes for attaching (you wil want to find studs) and anchor bolts will have to be prepared in advance in some places. Attach with stainless steel screws for a "right now" look. There is colored vinyl made to attach to glass for a stained glass effect that would work here. You could either set a pattern or random. (vinyl would go on inside) A Bead of caulk could be placed at the bottom to keep water from getting in. Since you have a small space, this would not be expensive.Helpful Reply

Sandra R on May 21, 2012Carol B, I wanted a stone look on my backsplash. I used peel and stick floor tiles with extra contractors glue. I tacked the bottom row up with some scrap board to hold them in place till the glue set. Maybe you could find some in a brick pattern. I have also used vinyl flooring as a wall cover. Same thing, I used contractors glue.Helpful Reply
